Chinese cooking: Banana fritters


Although more commonly found in your local Chinese restaurant than in China itself, who can resist a crunchy, melt-in-the-mouth banana fritter?

For an even more delicious variation, coat your fritters in hot caramel sauce and sprinkle with sesame seeds.

Ingredients (serves 6)

6 bananas
200g self-raising flour
30g sugar
3 teaspoons baking powder
1 egg
300ml milk
Grated zest of 1 lemon
Cinnamon powder
Grated nutmeg
Hot oil for frying
