Sleep aid, against insomnia

Sleep aid, against insomnia

Traditional remedies can be really effective. Give these a go:

> Hot milk and honey. Milk is one of the most tryptophan-rich foods, while honey is full of soothing sugars.
> Herbal tea. There are many plants that aid sleep: camomile, passiflora, hawthorn, fumaria, hop, lemon balm and valerian. Ask a herbalist for advice or inquire at a pharmacy or health shop.
> Dark chocolate with almonds. Cacao + sugar + dried fruits = increased levels of tryptophan, serotonin and melatonin secretion. This is ideal for getting back to sleep if you wake up in the night (and sounds like a good excuse to eat chocolate, if we ever heard one).
> Onion soup. Onion contains a slightly sedative substance called quercetin that was used as a sleep aid in ancient Egypt.
