If you're keen to get into the sport the good news is that it's not hard. Whether you live rurally or in the middle of a city there's a way to get involved at the click of a button.

Search for your local Nordic Walking trainer - check out Nordic Walking UK to search by region.

Classes themselves usually last between one to three hours depending on how energetic you're feeling - so it's a good sport to try out over a weekend.

Gill Stewart, Program Director at Nordic Walking says: "It takes up to four one hour sessions to learn the technique and after that sessions vary from one hour classes to longer adventure walks of 2 - 3 hours depending on the fitness of the group.

"Most people do not have too much time available so about one and half hours is ideal."

All you need to get started is some outdoor clothing, some comfortable trainers and some Nordic Walking Poles which you can buy easily online.

You can even buy different 'paws' to change the resistance. Beverley Boon from Try Nordic says you can practice: "On any terrain, up hills, down hills, on sand, gravel, grass, snow and pavement, you name it. By using different tips, known as paws, you can adjust the pole for each terrain."
