The Savage Garden by Mark Mills

The Savage Garden by Mark Mills

One to enjoy on the terrace of your Italian villa with an ice cream!

This second offering from screenwriter Mark Mills (he won the John Creasey Dagger Award for his debut novel The Whaleboat House) is a thriller set in beautiful post-war Tuscany. Adam Strickland, a young Cambridge scholar, travels to Italy to study a mysterious 16th-century garden created by a grieving husband for his dead wife. He discovers the intriguing Docci family have dark secrets in their recent and distant past, as two hidden murders - one in the 16th century and one in the 20th - suggest the Doccis' idyllic villa is cursed. Mills weaves past and present well and provides a window into the troubled, uncertain world of post-war Italy in the 1950s.
