Make lists

James Koch, co-author of Active Steps to Reducing Stress (Bracken Books) advises:
"Many women will be the ‘military commander’ over the festive period; organizing gift buying, the food planning, buying and cooking, as well as day-to-day running of the house.

"Stay in-control by doing mental preparation and using notebooks to make daily plans, from menu planning, shopping lists, and things to do.

"Ask for help from those around you, whether it’s doing jobs in the house, kitchen, or running errands (for the mince pies, brussle sprouts or the brandy!)."

Koch adds: "Aim to start the meal planning early, work out your budget and try to stick with it.

"Maybe research the shopping online, for both gifts and food, as this reduces the stress of crowds, and queues, and it will make finding items easier, so you know where to go when you hit the high street.

"Save some money by making something such as a compilation, a framed photo, home-made art or carpentry.

"When cooking the meal-plan the timings well, enlist some help and go easy on the booze until you’re done!"
