On ground that moves as much as sand, ankles can easily get twisted. And your risk of sprains, knee damage and torn ligaments will be greater if it's ben a while since you last did any sport.....
Before diving in, remember to prepare yourself for hard physcial exercise. Before going on holiday, go walking, biking, jogging and do exercises to strengthen your muscles. Just before starting a game, warm up all over (jog on the spot, lift your knees to your chest and your heels to your buttocks) and then warm up specific parts (rotate your ankles, chest, neck and wrists).
Be careful not to get dehydrated, as this can make you more vulnerable to strains, tendonitis and even ruptured tendons. Drink sufficient water on a regular basis, especially when it's hot and windy.
