Beach volleyball requires dexterity and coordination and it's also a very tactical sport, where mental and intellectual skills count for a lot. It's not enough to be physically up to the challenge: if you want to win you need to know all the tactics to foil your opponent's attacks and trick them.
This is why it's so important to be on the same wavelength as your partner. You should decide on a your tactics together. Unlike indoor volleyball (with 6 players on each team), you're playing with just one person so your united efforts are the key to winning. There's no chance of staying on the sidelines, unless that's part of your strategy - and it's not recommended!
