As Valentine’s Day falls on a weekend this year, chances are you’ll have a full day to spend in loved-up bliss. However, expecting him to be on doting-boyfriend duty all day might be a bridge too far, even for the most romantically-minded gent.

Happily, with a whole Sunday to play with there should be room to do things that both of you can look forward to.

‘Compromise and decide to do one thing each that you really want to do that day,’ suggests Ferd Hulls. ‘You could agree to watch the sport in the afternoon in exchange for a chick-flick later on.’

And with a bumper program of FA Cup football and Six Nations rugby to park him in front of, you’ll have plenty of opportunity to score yourself some serious brownie points.
