Universal presents, presents for anyone, gifts, gift vouchers
My presents In an ideal world, you'd like people to order their Christmas gifts so you wouldn't need to have to come up with ideas or waste your time shopping, and there'd be no chance of getting it wrong. But as only kids still write letters to Father Christmas, unfortunately you have to do the job yourself. So you tend to go for gift vouchers for big shops, so that you don't go over budget and you know the receivers will buy themselves something they like. Otherwise you go for gift sets, subscriptions or other ready-made gifts.
Beware... You're certainly not doing anything wrong, but your presents are often a tad impersonal. You could pass for indifferent, especially to those you're close to. Buying your best friend the latest perfume is all very well, but only if she's going to like it...
What to do Gift vouchers are perfect for 15-year-old cousins who can use them towards the latest gadget they're after, but your partner's or sister's gifts require more thought. Make an effort, be a bit more daring, and accept you might get it wrong on occasion. No-one will be angry with you if you do (that's what receipts were made for!) and at least you'll have shown you put a bit of thought into your gift.
