How to deal with the problem

If you suspect that your partner has a porn addiction it can be a lot to deal with.

Feelings of betrayal, anger and disgust are commonplace, but although feeling like this is totally normal, do not blame yourself! Instead, communicating with your partner is the only way to move forward.

Paula says: "If you think your partner has a problem with porn addiction, the first thing you need to do is talk to them about it.

Try to pick a time when both of you are relaxed and getting on well and explain that you’re worried about their pornography use. Try not to be judgmental but to focus on the impact it is having on you and your reasons why you think it’s getting out of hand.

Hopefully they’ll be able to begin to open up to you about it but be prepared for a defensive response and if that happens don’t push it but raise it again when they’re calmer.

An excellent resource that might help both of you to explore the problem, either alone or together, is www.yourbrainonporn.com."

Once you have started to approach the subject hopefully you can both start to deal with it.
