Friends with benefits: a (selfish) lifestyle choice?

Do you think that the phenomenon is linked to lifestyles in large towns and cities, and to the stress of young professionals, or is it general?
We can clearly make a parallel with Emma's character. She's a medical intern who doesn't have any time for herself, all she does is work and she just wants a sex friend for fun.

She thinks that having a normal relationship is a waste of time. But actually, a relationship provides more happiness when you take your time: the stages of getting to know each other, seducing and discovering one another, etc.

But modern society is always pushing us to go faster; we become selfish and we end up sidestepping relationships and people.
