Advice for avoiding and fighting flu


Although some doctors may offer you the flu jab, it won't give you 100% protection.

Heer are the preventative measures to take:
- Protect yourself from the cold.
- Avoid contact with people who are ill.
- Avoid crowded places if there's an epidemic on, like cinemas and shopping centers.

Flu isn't necessarily dangerous in itself during pregnancy, but taking the wrong medication can be harmful. Lozenges, syrups and sprays may seem harmless but often contain codeine or antibiotics which aren't suitable for pregnant women.

Homeopathy can also help: ask a registered homeopath, your GP and/or midwife for more information on preventative treatment.

If you go down with flu, make sure you drink plenty of water and juice, get lots of rest and don't get overheated as it's important to stay at a normal temperature wherever possible.
