Whilst high blood pressure is symptom-less, the presence of pre-eclampsia can cause the following symptoms:
  • High blood pressure (Hypertension)
  • Rapid weight gain
  • Swelling - particularly around the face, hands and feet
  • Racing pulse, mental confusion, anxiety, breathlessness
  • Blurred, flashing vision
  • Black-outs in vision
  • Photophobia (when light hurts the eyes or eyes become light sensitive)
  • Migraine-like headaches
  • Pain at the top of the abdomen, or on the right side under the ribs (under the shoulder)
  • Vomiting
If you don’t have the symptoms above but you just don’t feel right, seek medical advice to be sure, particularly after your 20th week of pregnancy.
