Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction


When you start looking into mindfulness, you'll notice there are different types of courses and exercises out there.

One popular practice is known as Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (sometimes referred to as MBSR). Dr. Robotham gives us the lowdown on some of the differences:

"To use the example of our online mindfulness course, a typical session of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) will be watching videos and doing interactive exercises led by expert mindfulness practitioners," he says. "The exercises are a mix of meditation, gentle yoga and gentle stretching."

MBSR is probably a good place to start if you want to test out mindfulness as a beginner.

Our expert describes one exercise you might do if you were to get involved, which he calls the 'body scan.'

"Participants lie down and are guided through a process of slowly directing their attention to different parts of their body," he explains. "The exercise is designed to help you pause and get back in touch with yourself by focusing on the present moment."
