Assisted conception (IVF)
Throughout Europe, legislation concerning assisted conception and surrogacy varies dramatically – laws on age limits, marital status and sexuality can all play a part.

Regardless of legalities, the auFeminin survey revealed EU-based women often have surprisingly differing opinions on what is and what should be acceptable.

In an on-going social discourse in all countries, legislators, experts and the public continue to struggle with where to draw the line between the wish for a child and the rules of nature.

Assisted conception for gay couples
The question of whether IVF should be limited to married heterosexual couples caused the most controversy in the survey. While the majority of women (90 percent in the UK) agreed that single women as well as widows should be given access to IVF, views varied when it came to IVF treatment for women in same-sex relationships.

The majority of German, Spanish and French were in favor but only the minority of women surveyed in Italy and Poland agreed.

Surprisingly in the UK, where the law supports assisted conception for lesbian couples, only the minority of those surveyed thought IVF should be offered to homosexual women.
