At Selfridges, Illamasqua offers 17 shades across five formulations to suit a whole spectrum of color, including alabaster white (from £19.57, available at Selfridges).

Blonds: Soft pinks on lips and cheeks work well and mascara is a must to define eyes.

Redheads:
Warm caramel or rich reds work best on lips, with apricot or pink blush over cheeks.

Brunettes: Wear rosy hues on both lips and eyes, and do as your grandmother did and rub a touch of lipstick onto lips and cheeks for an instant lift. Try the Bobbi Brown Lip Crayon in Wild Rose (£18, bobbibrown.co.uk) for a creamy, blend-easy formula.
