Make-up advice for black skin

Foundation: Once upon a time, there were few options for black skins but now, thanks to improved technologies, there are impressive choices for women of color.

Blouse & Skirt foundations (£19.75, available at Selfridges and blouseandskirtcosmetics.com) are devoted to the ethnic spectrum with 16 shades across three different tones. Revlon Beyond Natural Skin Matching Make-up (£9.78, available nationwide or Boots.com) contains pigments in micro-beads that burst onto the skin and match its tone - great for dark skins too.

Beverley Knight is launching K, a new range of cosmetics designed for darker skins. The range features 15 products in 78 shades including oil-free foundations. The range is exclusive to Selfridges for one month and prices start at £10.

Lips:
According to Bobbi Brown: “The darker your skin and natural lip color, the darker you can wear your lipstick.” Dark skins look great with burgundy or blackberry hues; medium skins suit wine or red shades; and lighter tones can try caramels and soft brown.

Tip: When going deep, choose sheer for a modern look - the latest lipstick from NARS - a sheer, crushed-berry called Fast Ride, is ideal (£17, available at www.narscosmetics.co.uk).
