Ragdale Hall treatments
On arrival you're provided with your personalized itinerary detailing all your pre-booked treatments. Most spa breaks come with a choice of complimentary massage or facial and these can be topped up with a dizzying array of other services and activities.
It's not just your average, run-of-the-mill holistic therapies either. Ragdale Hall offers treatments as diverse as Balinese Massage, Chakra Guidance, Crystal Wand Massage and Daoyin Tao (Chinese face, neck & shoulder massage).
The in-house Clarins offers a number of lovely experiences and the spa has some wonderful sounding Decleor treatments too - Decleor Madagascan Red Island Ritual, anyone?
In addition to relaxation, there's plenty to do if you're more into the fitness side of a spa trip. There are all sorts of invigorating classes inside or you can get outside and play some tennis or perhaps go cycling.
Even your mind is taken care of. Ragdale Hall has a Mind Gym packed with intriguing games and puzzles. Plus there are daily lectures and seminars to keep your gray stuff busy.
Your treatments - on the day
Most treatments and activities are booked in advance (to avoid disappointment) but you can always change the times if you like and there's a list of last-minute availability in the treatment area reception. Although the concept of an itinerary might not sound that relaxing it actually makes the experience even more hassle-free.
There's no need to check in for appointments, you simple waft into the conservatory waiting area at the allotted time, pick up a glossy and wait to be called. It's all very civilized.
The staff are all so professional and welcoming, a massage at Ragdale is like coming home on a Friday and putting your feet up - utter bliss. The therapist expertly dealt with my problem back and left me thirty minutes later pummeled to perfection and ready for yet more R&R.
