Parvin Ardalan - Iranian journalist

Parvin Ardalan, Iranian journalist, activist and feminist, she was one of the first members of the Women's Cultural Center. She's also the head editor of The Feminist Tribune of Iran.

Background: Iran has an Islamist regime where all the institutions are based on the principles of the Koranic law. Freedom of expression is practically non-existent and the rate of executions is one of the highest in the world.

What she fights for: Equality for women, women's rights in relation to family, marriage and divorce.

Her weapon: Her female webzine.
Change for Equality, created in 2006 by and for women, aims to change the laws that discriminate against women, and it's not an obvious task! To get herself known in a country where the majority of inhabitants don't have Internet access, Parvin and her team covered a lot of ground. They went to meet people to convince them of the need for rapid change in Iran.

Recognition: In March of this year, Parvin received the Net Citizen award from French media rights watchdog Reporters Sans Frontières (Reporters Without Borders) and Google. She dedicated this award to Iranian prisoners who are victims of their fight for freedom of expression. In 2007, she also received the Olof Palme Prize for her work to promote human rights.
