Goal: Improve child health

Target to be met by 2015: 
Reduce the under-five mortality rate by two-thirds 

What has been achieved?
Child death rates are falling - but much too slowly. If the current rate is not increased the two-thirds target will not be met. In Northern Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean they more than halved but child mortality remains high in parts of Southern Asia and has actually increased in Sub-Saharan Africa.
