The Goal: Gender equity
Targets to be met by 2015:
What has been achieved?
- Eliminate gender disparity in primary and secondary education, preferably by 2005 and in all levels of education 2015.
- Increase political participation and number of women in decision-making.
The key target for this goal was to eliminate gender disparaties in primary and secondary education. Although those gaps have narrowed, the gap remains high at university level in some developing countries because of poverty.
Employment for women has improved but women still mainly work in low-paid jobs or get paid less than their male co-workers. And although there have been some improvements in access to political participation there is still a long way to go.
