As Angel Adoree, Angela reigns over a multi-stranded vintage-inspired kingdom.
In real terms, she throws fabulous retro tea parties, is an in-demand image consultant and founder of the T-shirt Patisserie, a genius customized gift service.
It all started, though, with a vintage clothing business, a passion she nurtured from a young age: “From the age of 13 I used to go to my local boot sales and look for fur jackets and anything from an older era. At the time it did seem a little strange but in hindsight it was the start of my entire being.”
This passion for vintage remained a busy hobby for many years, with Angela also signing up for business school and working as a management accountant for small creative companies in London. “Unless you are blessed with money from the start any business requires hard work and dedication”, Angela says of those early days. “I had three days off a week and I used every second to start to concentrate on my passion. The collection of clothes I had was huge by the time I was in my early twenties.”
It was when she moved into an old school house in Bethnal Green that things really took off. She converted the space into a parlor and it soon became the hottest vintage spot in town. “Each month I would invite friends over for wine and food, jazz and they would casually shop and leave with bags of stuff. Word spread and I always had a waiting list.”
The idea for the T-shirt Patisserie grew from learning what her ladies loved at her vintage events – cakes, customized clothing and ceramics. Now, Anglea has a thriving online gift service where her busy team of creative elves customize t-shirts, cupcakes and chocolates - a service that has seen her gracing the gift guides of The Independent and other national press.
“Three years ago I managed to give up all my business jobs! The first time in ten years!” Add to this her talents as a tea-party-thrower and image consultant and you have quite the business portfolio.
So what have been the highlights thus far? “There have been quite a few! Getting the crown at a 2008 NOMAD Awards (No office, mobile and driven), being commission by Covent Garden to host the first ever tea party and hosting Fashionably Late in the flag ship Oasis Store were all pretty good!”
Next her sites are set on a ‘flagship store’ to call her own. Something tells us she’ll make it happen, as Angela’s own business mantra suggests: “Nothing is easy is business but everything is doable. It just requires patience, dedication and love will drive you.”
