Lisa Tse, 30

Lisa showed early signs of a sharp business mind, selling hand drawn My Little Pony portraits to satisfied classmates at junior school. "I had to make enough revenue to feed my Roald Dahl habit!" she remembers fondly.

This formative design flair has led to a multiple business portfolio, a clutch of awards (she won the coveted D&AD Yellow Pencil Award for one of her designs) ,and all by the age of 30. So what’s her secret? "I’ve always been proactive. At university you could coast and do OK but I was restless. I came to the city from Devon and saw so much opportunity." While her peers were studying in the library, Lisa was busy getting experience in the field. Her first internship saw her create the company’s website from scratch and then win an award for it.

After graduating from Saint Martins College, and despite numerous job offers, Lisa launched her eponymous creative consultancy at the tender age of 26; "I started out in my study at home with two desks and two cats." Fast forward a few years and she’s known as the femme fatale of the design world, thanks to her sophisticated feminine style paired with busy acumen. Her nine-strong team now works out of ‘beautiful period offices’ in the City on projects as diverse as launching a New York tap water, developing the Mews of Mayfair luxury brand and collaborating with Kevin Spacey’s Tunnel 228 underground art project. 

It’s difficult to keep up with all of Lisa’s passionately pursued ventures. She recently helped her doctor husband realize his dream of setting up a digital art studio, Opus Arts, which she helps to run, and she has a number of products in development: "I specialize in helping people build businesses but I want to get back to doing more design. I’m launching a jewelry line in China and developing a botanical product line in Singapore."

As if that’s not enough, she is also extremely revved up about another more altruistic venture – a women-in-business network called, appropriately, The Sorority. "When I started out in business at 26, I found it difficult to be taken seriously and it was a lot to do with how I looked. But why can’t you enjoy fashion, wear make-up and be really good at your job?"

Lisa is keen to overturn the stereotype that in order to be a successful businesswoman you must display masculine traits of aggression and ruthlessness: "There are a lot of women who go out there and create their dreams whilst maintaining their individuality. The Sorority is about bringing these women together and having a face for them." With Lisa’s ‘face’ behind it, something tells us it will be another huge hit.

2004 - Set up a signature design studio six months after graduating with an Industrial Design Masters at Central Saint Martins
2008 - Headhunted for the role of Global Creative Director of the Body Shop (declined in order to focus on her own personal projects).
Studio project highlights include collaborations with Kevin Spacey’s Tunnel 228 Art Installation, Vic Reeves Art Exhibition at Mews of Mayfair and working with Dragons Den’s Doug Richard on his new course for entrepreneurs.
2009 - Founded The Sorority, an exclusive creative business club for modern women celebrating style and femininity.
2009 - Launching a signature fashion jewelry line across China offering inspiring yet affordable style at the end of 2009.
