Keep colds at bay
Hold onto your tissues! If you want to stay flu-free, a cup of tea could be just what the doctor ordered. Researchers at the Harvard Medical School in America found that the amino acid theanine boosted the immune system, with five cuppas a day helping to beef up the body’s defenses against bacteria and viruses.
‘Whole leaf teas are better than tea bags as they contain 95% more antioxidants,’ advises medical herbalist Joerg Mueller. ‘The smaller the leaf size the fewer the antioxidants – an ordinary tea bag contains a mix of dust and very small leaf particles called fannings.’
