Postnatal fitness: How to lose weight after a baby

Take it slow

Following pregnancy your body is fragile, but that doesn't mean you can't start exercising straight away. Just take it slowly - little toning exercises can make a big difference.

Patricia Braz is a mom-of-one and a personal trainer. She says: "If there were no complications during pregnancy and delivery, mild exercise such as walking, pelvic floor and gentle stretching may begin immediately."

"To resume pre-pregnancy levels of physical activity or to start a new exercise program, you should wait until the postnatal check-up with a medical provider, this is usually after 6-8 weeks."

So don't hit the gym before you're ready and be careful not to overdo it. Carrying around your little one all day is already toning your arms and the amount of getting up and down in the night has got to burn some fat too.
