Take up a new hobby! It's fun, easy and the best bit? There's no exercise required...
1. Be a Photographer
Channel your creative side by taking up photography. BUT make sure you specialize in something outdoorsy first. Think flowers, landscapes or even events! The great thing about this one is that it requires you to get moving while discovering new things and getting your best shot. P.S. You don't even need a fancy camera to start; your smartphone is more powerful than you think.
2. Dance the Night Away
Aerobic dance can burn up to 443 calories per hour! Just imagine what you could burn on a Saturday night. Whether you want to take up dancing lessons (rumba, anyone?) or just leave it up to a night on the town (go easy on the drinks), dancing could be the new hobby for you.
3. Turn Housework Into a Workout
We're not sure what it is, but there's something so therapeutic about cleaning, don't you think? Research has found that a third of women secretly love cleaning, and let me tell you, I am one of them. If your house is always tidy, do a deep clean, rearrange the furniture, sort through old things - anything goes! Whether you're washing the dishes, mopping the floor or just giving your wardrobe a new spring clean, there's always something to do. Plus you can't really beat the rewarding feeling afterwards!
4. Take Up Pole Dancing
Never thought a stripper's pole could save your life? Think again. Not only will pole dancing make you feel sexier and more confident in yourself but now you won't even have to feel guilty about missing the gym! In fact, you might as well cancel your membership. Pole dancing is practically a full body workout. You're constantly holding yourself up and stretching loads, which all require a ton of strength! And if you get good at it you'll be able to do some pretty killer acrobatic moves! Give it a go, girls.
5. Be an Expert Thrifter
Vintage lovers, this one is for you. Whoever said shopping wasn't exercise was very wrong especially when you're determined to be an expert thrifter. To start, buy a book like, Secondhand & Vintage London and set goals for yourself for every week. Some days will be easy and others will be more difficult, but you have to remember it's all about discovering new places at the right time. And of course, you need to move to get there. There's a craft to thrifting you know.
6. Start Cooking More
If you're a lover of food but can't cook to save your life why not make cooking your new hobby? Choose a cuisine you want to master like Indian or Thai and start making a habit of practicing a couple of times a week. Not only will the fresh food help keep you healthy but all the work you're doing in the kitchen, chopping, stirring and running over to the oven is sure to burn a few cals.
7. Bird Watch with a Friend
The art of "birding" is essentially bird watching, which is great news! Because you will be forced outdoors in their natural habitats while you seek and observe different birds' activities all while getting good exercise.
It's pretty cool too. Can you imagine being able to identify a species of a bird by only sight or sound? If you love wildlife and want to learn something new give this one a go!
8. Bring Your Pup for a Walk
Whether dog walking's just a good excuse to add a new pup to the family or start a new dog walking biz, there's nothing quite like a nice, quiet morning stroll with your dog(s). Make it a thing and try to get your friends to join you! The fresh air and exercise will be just the thing you need to kick start your day right.
9. Tend Your Garden
This is not just for the oldies. Whether you're eager to impress your neighbors or are keen to start growing your own produce there's always something in gardening for everyone to get involved in. There's a lot of calories to be burned in gardening too, but it's completely up to you how far you take it! For us, there's no better feeling than producing your very own fruits and veggies.
10. Be the Best at Horse Riding
Horse riding is tons of fun, but it also can be demanding! The sport requires you to be well disciplined and physically fit. It's also an amazing workout for your core and if you get good at it you'll be able to do more strenuous longer trails (which equals, a fitter and healthier bod). Don't know about you, but we'd give up the gym any day for this!
