Good for the Body

Aside from numerous health benefits, swimming is one of the best things you can do to get you on track for the body of your dreams – just look at Laure Manadou’s figure!  An endurance sport, just like walking, running and cycling, it directly uses our bodies’ stores of fat.  To fuel its efforts during aerobic exercise, the body uses up oxygen and glucose, producing carbonic gasses and as soon as the glucose stocks run out (after around 40 minutes), it starts to burn its fat reserves, little by little.

Swimming demands a constant effort from muscles all over the body: the arms, legs and trunk especially.  You’ll notice a general improvement in strength and tone, for a better-proportioned you.

Finally, because your body is supported by the water while you swim, you can burn a great deal of energy before tiring, between 200 and 600 calories, depending on how hard you work.  Don’t forget that the muscles that you’ve used during your swim will carry on working afterwards, even at rest.
