Day 5 - cycling in the city
Cycling is one sure way to get you in tip top condition and the best thing is you ditch your daily commute and fit in exercise while getting to and from work.
I have to say I was dubious about getting back in the saddle after so many years but I am so glad I did. Bikes have come a long way since my Raleigh racer of 1987 - even the tires are more sophisticated.
Specialized bikes have been designed especially for women (after extensive research, in fact). You can have yourself analyzed and the frame fitted to your exact specifications at a Specialized concept store. It's like buying a pair of running shoes only better (and, alas, quite a bit more expensive).
The women's multi-street bikes are perfect for your daily commute - comfortable and easy to ride. Plus the Globe Daily 1 Step Through has puncture resistant tires and an integrated front basket.
I thought I'd be back on the tube at the first hint of rain but I braved the elements snug inside my wind & water-resistant high-visibilty jacket, weather-resistant tights and... shower cap. Yep, laugh all you want! But my hair was freshly washed and to be fair the shower cap was hidden under my helmet. I actually think it's kind of genius.
