The thought of taking part in a British Military Fitness class puts the fear of God into me. I couldn’t take it. All that running, hitting the floor for 8million press ups, more running... OK, it’s not really like that...

BMF may not be for me but I do like the idea of getting out into the park, exercising with like-minded folk of a similar fitness level and having fun in the process.

Fortunately, British Military Fitness has come up with a new outdoor exercise concept called Walkfit. It’s a softer version of their BMF classes – still run by ex- or serving members of Britain’s armed forces - where instead of running and floor work you have walking and standing exercises.

Walkfit is aimed at people who are new to exercise or are just getting back into it.

You can push hard or give yourself a break and don’t worry you won’t get yelled at or mocked. Our Walkfit trainers put us all at ease and made us laugh while they took us through a combination of hugely enjoyable walks, strolls and marches.

If you want to take the first steps towards a fitter, healthier you and meet some nice people at the same time then you can’t do better than Walkfit. It’s enormous fun, keeps you fit and it gets you outside – what’s not to like? First lesson is free so get off the couch and give it a go.
