Elizabeth Taylor

"I am a very committed wife. And I should be committed too - for being married so many times."

America's first glimpse of Dame Elizabeth Rosemund Taylor was in National Velvet (1944), when she was only 12 years old. It was a love affair that would last for the rest of her life.

Taylor starred in over 54 movies and won two Academy Awards for Best Actress: one for Butterfield 8 in 1960, and another for Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf in 1966.

Those violet eyes and flirty eyelashes gave the actress her fair share of suitors. Taylor was married a grand total of eight times.

Her most famous relationship was with twice-husband Richard Burton. The pair, who met on the set of Cleopatra in 1963 and had a steamy and controversial affair (which was publically condemned by the Pope!), married in 1964 in Montreal. They divorced in 1974. 16 months later, they remarried, but divorced again in 1976.

"It would be very glamorous to be reincarnated as a big ring on Liz Taylor's finger," Andy Warhol said about her.

And there would be so many to choose from!
