"If you want to give up the admiration of thousands of men for the disdain of one, go ahead, get married."
Headstrong and stubborn, Katharine Hepburn was that girl we all want to be...and always got the guy. Born Katharine Hepburn Haughton in 1907 in Hartford, Connecticut, she taught little girls never to settle for less than they deserved — especially not for a man.
Hepburn still holds the record for most Academy Awards won by any actress in a leading role: she won in 1934 for Morning Glory; in 1968 for Guess Who's Coming to Dinner; in 1969 for The Lion in Winter (shared with Barbara Streisand for Funny Girl); and in 1982 for On Golden Pond.
Though she was married once to Ludlow Ogden Smith, a businessman from Philadelphia, the most significant and famous relationship in her life was her 26-year secret affair with Spencer Tracy.
What a woman!
