Hannah graduated from the Colchester School of Art and Design in 2003 and worked with such designers as Robert Cary Williams and maestro of colorful prints, Jonathan Saunders. Heading in the opposite direction of her previous boss, Hannah sticks to an almost entirely black palette, with ‘almost’ shades of nude and dove gray making the occasional cameo. But season after season of sleek black dresses isn’t what makes her stand out; it’s her approach to detailing. Her designs feature unique Braille messaging hidden in leather necklines and adorning hemlines and her silhouettes often feature sharpened shoulders or voluminous Tudor sleeves that create dramatic statements; these aren’t the sort of black dresses that let you slink into a dark corner at a party.

For her a/w 09 collection, Hannah has begun to play with texture. Hardened stingray skin braces are paired with sheer chiffon and python panels peak out of padded shoulders. A tactile velvet jumpsuit begs to be touched whilst her leatherwork is beautiful as ever. Inspired by exoskeletons, there’s a look of an armored fashion warrior impervious to all that surrounds her. Perfect for these times of fiscal gloom.
