What it’s all about:

Created by Dr. Loren Corain and revised in 2010, the paleo diet is based on the premise that we should eat exactly the foods that our hunter-gatherer ancestors ate to promote health and lose weight. Many have praised the diet for its high protein intake, low carb menu, and natural foods.

Dr. Loren has published books and DVDs on the diet for athletes and those suffering from acne, but countless studies have been performed to question the validity of the diet’s premise.

The paleo diet has a huge Hollywood following including Jessica Biel, Gwyneth Paltrow, Megan Fox and Miley Cyrus.

Why to avoid it:

While it sounds like a good idea to cut out all those processed sugars and salts, this diet is not all it's cracked up to be. By sticking to this strict diet of meats and produce, you are cutting out essential food groups like dairy and grains.

Without these foods, you are missing out on helpful fiber, nutrients like calcium, and B and D vitamins, that help promote metabolism and bone health. So, while it all sounds good in theory, this diet is still not the healthiest option.
