What it’s all about:

Those who follow the alcorexia or drunkorexia diet cut out foods before drinking alcohol in an attempt to save their calories for those in alcoholic beverages. Many alcoholic beverages popular among young women, like margaritas and daquiris, have a high sugar and calorie count.

Therefore, some women will skip meals and instead count the calories in their alcoholic beverages as their daily allowance. While there is no strict outline or rules to follow for this diet, or rather eating disorder, it is one of the fastest growing and popular fad diets of 2013.

Many top models follow the alcorexia or drunkorexia diet in order to cut calories while drinking alcohol. It has also been rumored that Lady Gaga follows this way of living.

Why to avoid it:

We all know that drinking alcohol and not eating do not mix. Without food in the stomach, alcohol hits the bloodstream much faster, and therefore has a heightened effect.

Instead, before going out to drink and party with your friends, eat a healthy meal, full of proteins, fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, so you can stay alert and maintain a higher level of alcohol tolerance throughout the night.
