What it’s all about:

The Biotype diet was popularized in 2007 by founder Laura Power and works by separating people into six different biotypes, based on blood type.

Each blood type has specific foods that are considered to cause discomfort and reactions, and other food groups that can be eaten in more abundance.

Then, as you carefully select which foods to eat, the diet is meant to change the hormone balance in the body and reduce fat in certain areas.

Celebrity followers:

British singer Boy George reportedly followed a biotype diet to lose weight.

Why to avoid it:

This diet is not advisable since it is currently not backed up by any scientific evidence.

In an article in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, authors Leila Cusack, Emmy De Buck, Veerle Compernolle, and Philippe Vandekerckhove say, “No evidence currently exists to validate the purported health benefits of blood type diets.”

So, while you may accidentally lose weight on this diet, there are currently no proven health benefits.
