Table decorations for Halloween

It's time to switch off the lights and light a few candles to create that soft but spooky lighting that's perfect for a candlelit dinner like no other!

Cover your table with a black tablecloth and a Jack O'Lantern. Prepare it in the afternoon with the kids: carve out a pumpkin with a spoon and keep the flesh to make soup (recipes here).

If you're not keen on pumpkin, look out for some of the funny-shaped squashes that turn up in greengrocers at this time of year such as butternut and gem squash. They can be great for Halloween decs too!
