The right weight

Weight is a major factor in reducing your fertility, so when you are trying to conceive, your weight should be at the forefront of your mind.

Ideally your BMI (body mass index) should be at 20-25. If you are over or under this threshold then the chances are you’ll struggle to fall pregnant quickly.

Being overweight also increases the chance of high blood pressure and diabetes during pregnancy, and can contribute to a complications in pregnancy too.

Visit your GP and check if your weight could be a barrier to becoming pregnant, you might find you need to gain or lose weight to maximize your conception chances.

Never crash diet or starve yourself - no matter how quickly you want to become pregnant, losing weight takes time and needs to be done sensibly. In the long run it will all be worth it - and you can be a healthier parent too.
