Detox: Give up your vices 

Detoxing your system is a great way to cleanse yourself of any nasty toxins that could be lurking around, hampering your chances of having a positive pregnancy test.

There are some critical things that you must seriously try to give up if you are serious about getting pregnant.

As you might have already assumed, fags and booze do not make for the ideal conditions for conception, so giving up and cutting back on your vices will help increase your chances.

Alcohol

Drinking the odd glass of wine is acceptable but to give yourself the best shot at having a bun in the oven, you should be looking to have a maximum of 1-2 units once or twice a week.

If you can give up boozing completely then even better. The same goes for your partner - as alcohol can affect the quality of his sperm - so the less you both drink the better.

Medical Director at the Midland Fertility Center, Dr. Gillian Lockwood confirms: “Even small amounts of alcohol seem to reduce fertility and increase the risk of miscarriage.”

Smoking

Dr.Gillian Lockwood says: “There’s no doubt that smoking has a very severe and irreversible impact on fertility for women.“

NICE suggest binning the fags completely as smoking has a direct link with lower fertility for both men and women, not to mention the health problems smoking can cause your fetus to suffer.

Caffeine

Dutch researchers have previously suggested that women with existing fertility problems won't benefit from drinking lots of coffee.

Apparently those who drink more than 4 cups of the black stuff a day can hamper their chances of falling pregnant by about 26%. Whilst the study looked at women with fertility problems, most women shouldn't feel guilty about having a morning cup of coffee.

Excessive caffeine consumption should be avoided whether you're trying to conceive or not. So if you are up for a pre-conception detox, try and wean yourself off your caffeine fixes - whether they're coffee, tea or cola.

Drugs

Needless to say - drugs are bad! So any recreational drugs you may dabble with need to become a thing of the past - and pronto.
