Giving toy guns and weapons to children

Worried about about giving your child a toy weapon through fear you'll encourage aggressive behavior?

In theory: "We can't draw a simple link between the use of weapon-based toys and aggressive behavior. Representing violence in a game isn't about aggressive behavior. In fact, a child who behaves aggressively doesn't need to use weapons in order to show aggression," says our expert. A toy weapon can actually help to let the imagination run free.

In practice: If your child wants a Jedi light saber or cowboy gun and holster, there's no reason why not. These toys let children imagine they're heroes and invent stories while they're running around using up their energy!
