Peeling skin

The skin consists of three basic layers: the outer layer or epidermis, the middle layer or dermis, and the inner layer referred to as the hypodermis. The epidermis naturally sheds dead skin cells without us noticing, but sustained exposure to sun can often lead to a more noticeable peeling of the damaged skin cells as they make way for brand new ones that have been forming underneath.

Slough off any unsightly peeling by gently exfoliating - never just pull the skin away, ouch! If you’re watching the pennies, try mixing a little sugar and olive oil together and gently working it over your skin in circular motions.

Finish by re-hydrating your skin with an intense nourishing butter; products containing aloe vera are particularly great for thirsty skin.

And remember - the new layer of skin that emerges underneath your peel will be even more vulnerable to the sun’s damaging effects, as it has yet to be exposed to UV rays.
