For couples like Marie and James who do not want to sleep apart, The Sleep Council advises that:

“for quality sleep, bedrooms should be quiet, dark, cool and clear of gadgets including TVs, computers and mobiles. If you become too hot/too cold in bed, try separate duvets.

Do not start discussing problems with work or family when you retire to bed, you need to be doing something pleasant and relaxing to help you sleep not winding yourselves up with worry.”


So if sleeping together works for you, fantastic! But if your partner’s sleep behavior – whether it’s snoring, talking or turning over too often, disturbs your own rest, don’t be afraid to at least experiment with separate beds.
