Step 2: Work out what you’re looking for

Step 2: Work out what you’re looking for

Unless you keep dating carbon copies of the same man, each relationship should tell you something new about what you’re looking for in a partner.

It will also probably tell you what you’re not looking for, which is just as important. Over time you’ll get to know what you can live with, and what you seriously can’t stand.
One great exercise is to come up with a list of the 10 things you must have in a partner, and the 10 things you can’t stand. Look back over your previous relationships and write down every positive trait you appreciated and also every trait about your partners that annoyed you.

Next whittle this down to just 10 items on each list (you’ll probably have a lot more to start with). This really helps you focus on what really matters, rather than having a list of traits that add up to the world’s most perfect man (who probably doesn’t exist!)
