Stopping breastfeeding and weaning your baby off the breast usually takes place at six months.

The World Health Organization (WHO) and the NHS both recommend a minimum of six months exclusive breastfeeding for new born babies after which mother's should begin to introduce solid foods.

However, a recent report from the British Medical Journal encourages Stopping breastfeeding exclusively and weaning babies as young as four months.

Weaning your baby off the breast and onto solids or follow on milk is a personal decision and is best taken when you feel your baby is ready. Consult your health adviser before Stopping breastfeeding and take all factors into account!
